This version of a traditional Ukrainian beef Borsch is packed with complex flavors which combine to make an addictive taste combination.

1 pound beef chuck, cubed
1 10 oz. can beef broth
1 10 oz. can water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup onion, chopped
2 14 oz. cans canned beets, drained, cut into
1 potato, diced
1 carrot, cut in sticks
2 stalks celery, sliced
2 cups cabbage, shredded
1 cup canned tomatoes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon dill seeds
1/2 cup sour cream


In a large covered saucepan, simmer meat in broth and water 45 minutes or until tender. Stir in salt, onion, beets, potato, carrot, and celery; cover and simmer 15 min more or until vegetables are tender. Stir in cabbage, cook until tender.

Combine flour and lemon juice; slowly add to soup. Stir in remaining ingredients, except sour cream and croutons, cook, stirring occasionally until mixture thickens.

Serve piping hot garnished with sour cream and croutons.
