Russian Tea Cakes (Cookies)

These confectioner's sugar-coated nut cookies are a Christmas tradition in our house. My Mom started making these when I was a child.

36 small cookies

1 cup butter
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon water
1 cup nuts, chopped
2 cups flour

additional powdered sugar for coating


Heat oven to 350.

Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together. Add nuts and remaining ingredients.

Chill dough. Roll into 1" balls and place 2" apart on ungreased
cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350 until set but not brown. (May take a little longer than 10-12 minutes - just watch them)

While still warm, roll the cookies in powdered sugar. Let cool, then roll again in sugar.
